Migrating to Drupal 4.6 soon

The long-awaited Drupal 4.6 has finally been released. This new version of the amazing Drupal CMS has been in "release candidate" (beta) production for the past few months, but is now bug-free enough to be considered stable. GreenAsh will soon be making the migration to this new platform, from our current 4.5 code base.

We'll also be using Drupal's new multisite functionality to migrate other GreenAsh sites to Drupal, and to integrate them with GreenAsh using features such as shared user accounts. First on our list is Jaza's World, which is still residing at its legacy address, and which still uses static HTML without any scripting or DBMS support.

The migration of other GreenAsh sites to Drupal (and to the GreenAsh domain) is something that's been on hold for several months, in anticipation of Drupal 4.6 and its multisite functionality. Once the migration is complete and the new sites are integrated, you'll be able to log in to these sites using your GreenAsh (or affiliate) account, and to comment and post forum messages just as you can on this site. We also hope to make the most of various other features of Drupal 4.6, such as its vastly improved image handling, its revamped forum system, and its many small (but significant) improvements in usability.

Don't hold onto the edge of your seats waiting, though! Moving GreenAsh to Drupal 4.6, and moving various GreenAsh sites to Drupal, are two separate projects, each of them formidable in its own right. This is something that will take us many weeks (if not months) to complete. But we believe that in the end, the benefits will easily justify the effort.
