Presenting the SoS 2005 web site

GreenAsh is proud to present to the world the Students of Sustainability 2005 web site. SoS is an annual conference, where students and other community members from all around Australia gather together, to tackle issues such as the environment and social justice. It is a fun, momentous, and worthwhile event to attend. Those who go to SoS not only have a great week, but also have the opportunity to directly contribute to the furtherment of sustainability in Australia.

Although we cannot take credit for the design of the site, we had a significant involvement in the site's development. Outiv Te (a volunteer for SoS, and design student at UTS) laid down the extensive foundations for the site: he produced all the graphics; he crafted the lovely Flash banner; and he designed the site's layout and colour scheme.

We continued on Outiv's great work: we converted his layout to one that uses clean, tableless XHTML and CSS (whilst preserving the original design in all its beauty); we wrote a PHP framework to centralise page requests, and to facilitate the reuse of markup through header and footer templates; and we developed an extensive PHP-based form system, allowing users to contact the SoS volunteers through the site, and also to submit a 5-page conference registration form online.

All this was done free of charge, as a voluntary act of charity for the SoS movement. We are now proud to be hosting the site on our servers, also free of charge. So now that we've empowered anyone with Internet access (and that includes you!) to be able to register for the conference online, what are you waiting for? Earlybird registration for SoS closes on 10 June. The conference is from 10 - 15 July, at Melbourne's Monash University. Discounts apply for students and other people with low income. You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain. Register now for SoS 2005!
